Freelance Writer

Editor, FAB Women
2003—Created FAB Women for Woman Centered, a women's refuge, as a fundraiser. Sadly, one of the directors of WC was embezzling the funds and the non-profit closed down rather abruptly.

Editor, Vermont Journal
2002—Took this non-entity of a poorly written local small town newspaper to wider circulation with great writing and tremendous local interest.

The Official Directory to U.S. Flea MarketsEditor, The Official Directory To U.S. Flea Markets, House of Collectibles
(1990-2002) — Random House (now Crown), House of Collectibles, New York. Last edition, May 2002. This was my sixth edition, their eighth. I contacted all the flea markets in the book and wrote up their information, edit and typeset the entire book. This required writing or phone contact with over 800 markets in all 50 states. Crown created the cover, everything else is written by me.

Director, Dorothy Canfield Fisher Writers Conference
(1990-1998) Created, planned, organized, scheduled, and advertised this two-day conference drawing an average of 100 people to listen to 16 speakers holding 13 workshops. Many of our attendees went on to success as writers. One early attendee, Mark Sullivan, later a speaker, has several bestsellers including Fall Line, The Purification Ceremony, Ghost Dance. Tess Gerritsen, author of the bestselling Harvest met her agent, Meg Ruley, here while she held the Romance Writing workshop. Both Mark and Tess signed million dollar contracts for their books. Carol Higgins Clark (Iced, Snagged), Diane Mott Davidson (Death by Chocolate), Archer Mayor (the Joe Gunther mystery series), and Pulitzer Prize and Emmy award-winning Ron Powers were some of our speakers and/or workshop leaders. Noted agents Bobbe Siegel, Carole Abel, Meg Ruley, Sue Yuen, Regula Noetzli and many others, ran workshops designed to help attendees become professional, published writers.

Business and Travel Writer, STAR SERVICE, Cahners Travel Group
Traveled to the Cayman Islands twice, Belgium and The Netherlands once, to write hotel reports for STAR SERVICE. This entails visiting each hotel (no expenses paid), and evaluating it for its structure, value, whether or not it lives up to the hype, and to write about the hotel in a way that tells a traveler exactly what the hotel is like to stay there. STAR SERVICE is a publication of the Cahners Travel Group, Reed Elsevier Publishing. It is a subscription service for travel agents and corporate travel planners. There is no advertising. It is paid on a fee per hotel visited and reported basis, with SS telling writers which hotels to visit and update.

Feature Writer

Other Positions

League of Vermont Writers, 1984-1998
Served as President, VP, Treasurer and Board of Directors member for over 9 years. During my tenure the LVW grew from 125 members to 400, much of this as a direct result of our conference. In addition there were one-day writers conferences as well as the regular meetings for our members. We published two editions of the Vermont Voices anthologies written by our members. I typeset the first edition as well as worked on the editing committee for both editions. During this time, the LVW was considered one of the premier writers organizations in the country.

National League of American PEN Women, Southern Vermont Branch
President of this branch of a national women in the arts organization based in Washington DC from 1998-2000.
